The Miami Tridents, defending Florida premier division state champions, opened their season with a comfortable win against local rivals Miami RFC.
The game started with an opportunistic try on 10 minutes from Miami RFC number 8 Robert Lara, with confusion in the back field by the Tridents. The conversion was missed by Francisco Mantaner. It didn't take long for the Tridents to level the scores on 14 minutes with a powerful try by their 2018/2019 Rookie of the Year Germán Ariel Jalil. A tricky conversion from under the posts was just missed by Connor Christie.
The Tridents lost Victor Zolotukhin to a yellow card on 23 minutes and during his time off the pitch Miami converted a penalty to move 8-3 up.
Back came the might of Germán Jalil with a second try on 37 minutes, with the conversion made by Connor Christie to give the State Champions the lead by 12-8 at the end of the first half.
The Tridents opened the second half with a well worked try when lock Henry Larroucau went over under the post and again Christie stepped up to slot over the conversion.
Miami RFC lost William Moreno to a yellow card on 52 minutes and Germán Jalil punished them further with his third try of the game on 54 minutes , which was slotted over again by Christie.
Tridents scored again on 63 minutes with a super break by captain Damien Clemente to bring the score to 31-8. Miami RFC scored on 67 to keep their slim hopes of an upset alive but the Tridents closed out the game on 78 minutes with a try from flyhalf Milan Wagner which was converted by Christie.
A nice opener to the season, a well deserved 38-15 away win and the Miami Cup is retained by the Tridents.
