Trident RFC End of the Year Banquet, 2019 is a Huge Success

By Leonel Ruiz

The Tridents celebrated another successful season and inaugurated the first members of our Hall of Fame.

On Saturday, June 1st, 2019, the Tridents held their annual End of the Season Banquet to celebrate yet another year as State Rugby Champions. This year, the venue was Topgolf in Miami Gardens. Members and guests not only enjoyed food and drinks, but also 2 hours of play on Topgolf's driving range.

The event began with dinner being served, followed by the Team Awards Ceremony. The recipients were as follows:
Most Valuable Player 1st XVs: Miguel Peña
Most Valuable Player 2nd XVs: Tom Hultgren
Most Improved Player: Jorge Gonzalez
Rookie of the Year: Germán Ariel Jalil
Trident of the Year: Leonel Ruiz

Miami Tridents President, Sean Murray, thanked the club officers for their superb contribution to making this another winning season and all their hard work behind the scenes. The officers introduced the inaugural members of our newly created Hall of Fame. The first to be inducted was Fernando Bretos for close to three decades of service to the Club, not only as a player, but as team captain, treasurer, vice president, and president. His leadership, especially during the Club's most challenging period in the early 2010s was invaluable to keeping the Club solvent. Our second inductee was Philippe Ryser for not only many years as one of our best back rowers, but also as a leader on and off the pitch, playing an instrumental role in creating the winning culture that is the hallmark of Trident Rugby.

Last, but not least were the Social Awards, hosted by Christo Jewett and Luis Prieto Muñoz. The excellent and hilarious media presentation was designed by the multi-talented Zach Perlman. Many a Trident were skewered and roasted to the delight of the crowd.

The officers of the Club would like to thank the staff of Topgolf for an great job of hosting. Also a huge thank you to all officers, players, family, and friends for all of their support and effort over the course of the season. Officers are already planning another successful season in 2019-2020. ONE MORE YEAR!
